Travelling vicariously with photo books

Winter may have set in but you can keep summer holiday memories fresh as you create a Momento photo book or even cards and a calendar. Here’s some of the ways our customer’s creatively tell their travel stories.

Turn a travel book in to words of wisdom

'Come share my life' is a unique take on a travel book as it features quotes from Aesop Fables and words of wisdom from the 14th Dalai Lama. By combining his beautiful travel photos with inspiring quotes, Cleverson has transformed the book from a practical record of a holiday to an inspirational book that would also make a great gift. Cleverson says, "being sad and empathising with the subject usually helps transform ordinary scenes into stunning photography. He never plans a shot in advance but waits to see what life will bring." His travels certainly offered him many poetic moments to capture!

A collaborative effort from a tour group

Last year Momento founders, Libby and Geoff, joined a photographic tour in Bhutan. The group photographed countless locations and cultural experiences, resulting in thousands of images, so it was agreed that a collaborative effort was the best option. One of the tour hosts, Peter Eastway, and wife Kathie, collected three photos from each participant, laid them out in a book and added captions, being careful to avoid repetition, and sequencing them so there was a natural flow. Heres the results.

Geoff also turned his Bhutan photos into a Diary – apparently so he could daydream daily about his holiday!

The other hosts and cultural experts, were Robert Van Koesveld and wife Libby Lloyd, who’ve published a stunning book called, Bhutan Heartland – a travel book we can all aspire to.

If you’d love to visit Bhutan or join a photographic tour to improve your camera skills and access unique venues and locations, we can highly recommend PeterRobert and Libby.

The Sounds of Silence – a labour of love

Most of us would agree that photography and making photo books are labours of love. Over the past 5 years Michael has travelled the equivalent of twice around the earth with the simple goal of exploring and photographing some of the most stunning locations on our planet.  'The Sounds of Silence' is a reflection of Michael’s love of photography and the beautiful places that still exist in the world. This book is a great example of using a clean layout to enhance his narrative and letting the photos do the talking. If you’d like to see more of his work please visit his website.

Africa Greeting Cards – Graeme Stevenson

It’s always a pleasure to receive something in the post, so why not make greeting cards with your holiday photos like our customer Graeme did after returning from an African safari. You could even include quotes like Cleverson did in his book, or add captions and a copyright notice for a professional look. Consider creating a series of 5 designs, buy 5 packs of 5 cards then mix them up and give them as gifts. You don’t even have to travel with this idea, we’ve got some customers who’ve created card series from photos of regional attractions and buildings, that they sell in local gift stores or tourist venues.

Whichever photo product you choose, now’s the time to have a play with your holiday snaps from the comfort of your couch.
